I create art which can be appreciated for its design and craftsmanship and upon reflection, provide the viewer with an exploration of complexities in personal and cultural issues.
Using basic products - cloth, dyes, paints - to
form a meaningful composition is both challenging and soul-satisfying. The cloth is manipulated in a variety of
methods including stamping, dyeing, printing, discharging. My intent is to create a piece with layers of
interest - some to mimic weathered and faded objects, a wall, doors or in other
cases, a multi-faceted persona. Stitching, writing, drawing, painting, papers may be added to further the design
along with collaged objects. Much like a
construction project, my creations develop from the ground up, combining the
familiar in an abstract style.
